How Does a Cochise County, AZ Daycare Fund an Expansion, Playground or Passenger Van?

A Cochise County, AZ daycare usually funds an expansion in pieces: a business term loan for the classroom build-out and furniture, an equipment loan for a passenger van or playground, and working capital for the teachers hired before the new spaces fill. Arizona licensing approval sets the order in which the money is spent.

In short

An article from Rosepine Lenders in Sierra Vista, Arizona on funding a child care center expansion, with Cochise County child care counts, an invented example priced two ways and a director checklist.

Daycare Center Funding for a Second Building or More Rooms

A second building or added rooms is the largest kind of daycare expansion. It combines a lease or purchase, a build-out to licensing standards, furniture and equipment for each age group, and staff hired to ratio. Daycare center funding for that kind of project is usually led by a term loan for the build-out, sized to the work and repaid over years.

Child day care services had 27 employer establishments in Cochise County, AZ in 2023, with 269 paid employees, and Nonemployer Statistics counted 189 child care businesses without paid employees in 2024, a separate count that includes home providers (Census Bureau).

Before any of the money is spent, check the licensing path. ADHS asks licensed providers to request approval for changes to structure or program, in most cases before making them; the Arizona child care license guide explains the steps.

Child Care Facility Loan Terms for a Cochise County, AZ Center

Child care facility loan terms are set by the partner after reviewing the request, and they follow the life of what is financed. A build-out in a leased space should not outlast the lease. A van can be financed over its working years. Payroll before enrollment fills is short money, repaid as tuition arrives.

Partners reviewing a Cochise County, AZ center will want enrollment by room and age group, any waiting list, revenue by source including subsidy payments and when they arrive, bank statements, tax returns and the expansion budget. Subsidy payments that arrive after the month of care widen the payroll gap; include their timing.

Day Care Loan Uses: Playground, Van and Classroom Furniture

Playground structures, safety surfacing, shade sails and fencing are part of what a license requires for outdoor play, and they wear out. Classroom furniture, cribs and cots, cubbies and kitchen equipment are bought in quantity. A passenger van may be needed for school pick-ups or field trips.

Most of these items can be financed as equipment, secured by the items where they can be resold. Installed playground equipment and shade structures are built into the site, so a partner may treat them as improvements and fold them into the term loan. Equipment financing explains the difference.

Loans for a Daycare Business Hiring Before Enrollment Fills

Teachers for a new room must be hired, cleared and trained before the room opens, and paid from their first day. Enrollment builds over weeks or months. Loans for a daycare business hiring before enrollment fills are working capital: a short loan or a line sized to the payroll gap.

Work out the gap month by month: payroll for the new room minus tuition and subsidy expected from it. The total of the negative months is the amount to request. A working capital loan repaid as the room fills, or draws on a line of credit, can carry it.

An Invented Two-Classroom Expansion With a Van, Priced Two Ways

Illustration only, invented figures: a center adds two classrooms for $96,000 in build-out and $24,000 in furniture, buys a $52,000 passenger van and expects $30,000 in payroll before the rooms fill, $202,000 in all (our sum).

Priced as one $202,000 loan over 84 months at an invented annual rate of 10%, the payment is about $3,353.44 a month and total interest about $79,689. Priced in three pieces, a $120,000 term loan over 84 months at 10%, the van over 60 months at 9% and the payroll over 12 months at 12% (all invented), total interest is about $62,092 (our arithmetic).

In this invented case the split costs about $17,597 less in interest, because the payroll and the van are not carried for seven years. The trade-off is three payments, one of them large for the first year. Real offers will differ, and a partner may structure the request differently.

A Director Checklist Before the Expansion Request

  • Confirm the plan against the current ADHS center rules and request approval for the change.
  • Get the lease or building terms, and the build-out bids, in writing.
  • Quote furniture, playground items and the van separately.
  • Write a month-by-month enrollment and payroll plan for the new rooms.
  • Gather bank statements, tax returns and records of subsidy payments.
  • Check permits for the build-out; in Sierra Vista they go through CitizenServe.

The daycare center financing page lists the funding types, and business term loans covers the build-out side.
